June 18- July 4

The Glass Menagerie was first performed during our opening season in 1949 and we are pleased to revive this classic for our 60th Anniversary. The Glass Menagerie is recognized as one of the most famous plays in modern theatre.

The Story…

Amanda, a single parent, is determined to improve the lives of her children. Daughter Laura is withdrawn within her illusionary world and son Tom is rebellious and years for adventure. This entertaining memory play uses humour and pathos to examine a family unravelling, lost in their individual fantasies and dreams.

Our Cast…

The Red Barn Theatre is proud to announce that Fiona Reid, one of Canada’s most celebrated actresses, will be starring in our production of Tennessee William’s classic The Glass Menagerie. Having starred at every major theatre across Canada (including the Shaw and Stratford Festivals and CanStage), Ms. Reid is the recipient of two Dora Awards, a Jessie Award and a Gemini Nomination. Ever since audiences first came to know and love her as Larry’s wife on TV’s King of Kensington, she has been wowing legions of fans with her comic talent, dramatic range and emotional honesty. Fiona Reid was born to play “Amanda Wingfield” and The Red Barn Theatre is honoured to have Canada’s favourite leading lady headlining our Diamond Anniversary Season.

We are also very excited to announce that Jonathan Crombie will join us direct from starring on Broadway in The Drowsy Chaperone to play “Tom” in The Glass Menagerie. Jonathan Crombie is internationally known to audiences as “Gilbert Blythe” in all three installments of the Anne of Green Gables mini-series. Jonathan’s credits also include two seasons on the hit TV series Slings and Arrows and as “Romeo” at The Stratford Festival.

Michelle Monteith will play “Laura”, a role for which she won The Montreal English Critics Circle Award as Best Actress. Brendan Murray, who has played major roles at The Centaur Theatre, The Citadel Theatre and The National Arts Centre, will play the gentlemen caller “Jim”.
